Deviation Actions
Description
In this piece, the colors are very symbolic; in any instance, the color pink is feminine, while blue is masculine. The female lionesses are pink, while the male has a blue mane. However, you can see that both lions have yellow/tawny tones, indicating in this case that yellow is a color shared by both genders (common ground)--the environment is also semi-reflective of color/gender association: the savannah/grass is mostly yellow (neutral) yet there are elements of masculinity (blue rocks) that indicate male dominance ('it's a man's world').
The action in this piece is an aggressive/extreme approach to feminism, where females take their rights and respect by force. Without getting too far into social issues, I believe that most feminists would like to settle problems peacefully; however the frustration of not being heard and the little progress being made is likely to inspire aggressive outbursts (hence the savagery of the foreground female). Overall, the lioness's actions are in defiance to gender stereotypes, and the lioness has proven that to 'fight like a girl' is to fight just as fiercely as her male counterpart and come out on top.
The symbolism is subtle, so take what you want from it, but that's my take on my own piece.
